Performance Requirements
Flexibility and Elasticity: For applications subject to frequent bending or stretching, such as furniture edge protection or foldable household items, TPU film, due to its high elasticity and good flexibility, is a better choice. EVA film, on the other hand, has relatively weak elasticity and is less suitable for such applications.
Abrasion and Scratch Resistance: For applications prone to friction or scratching, such as floor protection films and furniture surface films, TPU film offers greater abrasion and scratch resistance, providing better protection for the substrate surface. EVA film has average abrasion resistance and may show wear or scratches with long-term use.
Weather Resistance: For outdoor building materials, such as awnings and roof waterproofing, TPU film offers excellent weather resistance, maintaining stable performance in various climates and resisting aging, fading, or cracking. EVA film has relatively poor weather resistance, and long-term outdoor exposure may affect its performance and lifespan.
Thermal Insulation: In applications requiring thermal insulation, such as window film and building exterior insulation, EVA film's molecular structure contains numerous closed micropores, effectively blocking heat conduction. Some EVA glass films can even enhance infrared reflectivity by adding special reflective layers. TPU film also offers some thermal insulation properties, but EVA film generally outperforms in this regard.
Waterproofing: Both EVA and TPU films offer excellent waterproofing and can be used in waterproof areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. However, TPU film offers superior waterproofing, especially in applications involving long-term exposure to water or high humidity, such as bathroom curtains and waterproofing membranes. TPU film offers greater durability.
Environmental Protection: Home building materials are directly related to human health and the living environment, so materials that meet environmental standards should be selected. TPU film is typically made from environmentally friendly polyethylene, resulting in minimal pollution during production. Some TPU films are also biodegradable. EVA film may produce environmentally harmful substances during production and use. Therefore, when selecting EVA film, ensure that it complies with relevant environmental standards, such as RoHS and REACH regulations.
Processability: If the film requires complex processing, such as thermoforming, printing, or lamination, the material's processability should be considered. TPU film offers excellent processability and can be formed through methods such as injection molding and hot pressing, and is less susceptible to deformation and shrinkage during processing. EVA film is relatively simple to process, but may not perform as well as TPU film in applications requiring high-precision processing.
Cost: EVA film has a relatively simple production process, resulting in low costs and a relatively affordable price, making it suitable for cost-sensitive applications. TPU film has a more complex production process, high costs, and is relatively expensive. However, if high performance requirements are required, such as long-term use and high durability, TPU film may offer a better value for money.
Appearance: If you have high aesthetic requirements for home building materials, such as high transparency, gloss, or special colors and textures, TPU film may be a better choice. TPU film has high transparency and good surface smoothness, which can meet the needs of occasions with high requirements for appearance, such as transparent furniture film and decorative glass. EVA film has a relatively simple appearance.
